Are you planning to spend a few days on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas but don’t know where to stay? I tested the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach all-inclusive hotel and I’d like to give you our impressions of this beautiful establishment.
There are several hotels on the island, ranging from boutique hotels to villas, hotels and bed & breakfasts. During my stay, I tested the Fortuna Beach 4 stars, similar to a 3-star Mercure, ideally located on the south coast of the island of Grand Bahama. It’s 6 km from the lively resort of Port Lucaya and downtown Freeport, and just a 15-minute drive from the airport. Set on one of the island’s most beautiful white-sand beaches, in the heart of a magnificent estate, it welcomes you for a relaxing stay!
I give you my must-tries on Grand Bahama but Feel free to consult all our articles on the Bahamasto prepare for your trip:

SOMMAIRE DE L'ARTICLE :
THE FORTUNA BEACH HOTEL STYLE
As soon as we arrived, we felt like we were in the Caribbean! On either side, you’ll find two colorful L-shaped buildings, decorated in the colonial style typical of the Bahamas. In the heart of a tropical garden, this beautiful 10-hectare complex stretches between beach and forest. The hotel is planted with hibiscus and bougainvillea, as well as coconut palms on the beaches. I’m telling you, this place oozes vacation and cocktails!
ROOMSIDE
The hotel has 274 air-conditioned rooms, spread over one floor in the 2 buildings and 3 categories:
– 154 Vista sea-view rooms: modern, contemporary decor with a breathtaking view of the ocean and private beach.
– 48 Flora garden view rooms: these modern rooms are located in the central part of the hotel and offer a view of the gardens.
– 72 Standard rooms: comfortable but more secluded.
For my part, I stayed in the room Vista Vue mer (photo below) with a view not from the front but a little to the side, allowing me to see the sea, the sunsets and the beach ( A word of advice: ask for the room that faces the sea so you can stay on your balcony for sunrise and hear the sound of the waves better, yes I know I always have good ideas!
The rooms in the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach feature a private balcony overlooking a garden or the ocean. They offer all the comforts we need for our vacations: a king-size bed, satellite TV and private bathroom with shower. They feature flat-screen satellite TV, air conditioning, hairdryer and safe.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
This pretty complex offers 4 themed restaurants with different atmospheres and 3 bars for you to enjoy at any time of day. I’ve tried them all and my favorite is the bamboo for its originality.
- Junkanoo Restaurant
This is the hotel’s main, most central restaurant, offering a varied international and sometimes local buffet. For dinner, reservations are required!
- Restaurant Bamboo
Right next door to Junkanoo, this restaurant invites you to sample its à la carte Asian specialties: sushi, nems, curries…The decor is surprisingly similar to that of an ice cream restaurant!
- Restaurant Viva Café
Discover Italian flavors with a variety of à la carte dishes
- Viva La Pizza Restaurant
The wood-fired pizza is famous and quite good, to say the least. Please note that the starters are not very copious, so remember to take the main course as well.
- Snack
The beach snack bar serves French fries and burgers all day long. The Beach Bar serves cocktails on the beach and by the outdoor pool.
- Bars
In this type of hotel, you’ll never go thirsty, believe me! Do as I did and succumb to the many cocktails on offer. The Mojito and Piña Colada are really very good, but I recommend you try the many local cocktails such as the Bahamama or the local Sands beer.
FORTUNA BEACH ACTIVITIES
There’s no time for boredom here! The hotel Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach offers a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy. You can either relax on the sun loungers on the hotel’s beach or take advantage of the swimming pool with its well-equipped relaxation area. For the more sporty, there’s plenty to keep you entertained with a multitude of activities on offer every day. Most activities benefit from the free assistance of instructors who give group lessons. We find non-motorized sports activities, daily activities and activities paying (introductory diving and PADI with Reef Oasis Dive Club (in the hotel, fishing, water-skiing, horseback riding, golf near the hotel, massages) to discover sites with overhanging reef walls or ancient shipwrecks, meet dolphins, sharks and, for the more experienced, explore the famous “blue holes”. Other activities include deep-sea fishing, water skiing, banana boating, jet skiing and horseback riding. Prestigious golf courses are also nearby.
In the activities free sailing, windsurfing, canoeing (introductory course), water polo, water gymnastics, tennis, archery, cycling, gym with instructor, stretching, beach soccer, beach volleyball, soccer pitch, table tennis, basketball, billiards.
For all activities outside the hotel, we invite you to read our article 6 experiences to enjoy on Gran Bahama Island.
I didn’t know it before I came, but this hotel’s entertainment team is quite renowned. An international team of entertainers is on hand to give dance lessons, run the discotheque and organize themed evenings lasting around an hour. Special mention Wednesday evening for the lion king very well orchestrated and danced, with a carefully crafted set. I had a great time watching them perform!
As you can imagine, I felt quite at home in this hotel. I’d recommend it for all the aspects listed below:
- A long, beautiful beach of fine white sand right on the hotel’s doorstep
- The All Inclusive package for a light trip and peace of mind
- Great value for money and good service, which will appeal to couples and families alike for a convivial vacation.
- The location on Grand Bahama Island with its nearby tourist attractions and protected natural sites
- A complete hotel that suits travelers looking for a relaxing break and sports enthusiasts with a wide range of activities on offer.
- Renowned, high-quality entertainment
